Thinning and non-existent eyebrows are no longer an issue for anyone seeking full brows, thanks to the advances in semi permanent makeup. Powder brows is a treatment offered worldwide by specialist semi permanent makeup artists.

What Are Powder Brows?

Powder brow also known as microshading is a cosmetic tattooing treatment that adds fullness to thin and non-existent brows.

In terms of procedure, a permanent makeup specialist uses a digital device to lightly implant colour pigment under the skin. The pigment is mixed to match your hair colour. Unlike microblading, a shading motion is used to create density and shape. The result is eyebrows that are not only fuller, but more defined with a natural shape.

Ombre brows are a style of powder brows. Powder ombre eyebrows have an ombre effect through the brows. The bulb of the brow is soft in colour blending into a darker pigment colour at the tail of the brow. This can also be referred to as a makeup look brow.

Powder brows fade over time. To keep your semi permanent makeup vibrant and defined, we recommend a colour boost pigment top up every 12-18 months.

Our Powder Brow Procedure

This is what happens during the treatment:

  • Your brows will be carefully shaped using your existing brow hairs. The area is plucked and trimmed, and then cleaned in preparation for the treatment.

  • We will look at colour swatches together and decide on the best shade to achieve the look you desire.

  • We will measure the area around your brows and assess the shape of your face, its features, symmetry and other characteristics to plan the work ahead.

  • Then, the needling process begins. We will gently implant the pigment under the skin with a series of light, back and forth strokes. This motion creates superficial dots in your skin where the colour pigment will seep in and settle, resulting in a powdery effect.

  • After building the powder brow with a few layers of pigment, the final layer is added and left to set for another five minutes. Once that's done, the area is cleaned one last time before you see those beautiful powder brows!

  • A top-up session will be scheduled for around four to six weeks' time. At this stage, I will assess the results and fill in any gaps where the pigment hasn't taken.

During those four to six weeks, you'll need to follow the powder brow after-care instructions carefully and avoid scratching or picking at your eyebrows. Brows will begin to heal shortly after the initial procedure, so you may feel a small amount of itching or irritation, just as you would with a tattoo elsewhere on the body. Rest assured, that is completely normal.

Within the first 10 days of the initial treatment, you can expect your eyebrows to change in colour. At first, they might appear flaky or faded, however, this is completely normal. The final colour and shape of your brows will emerge once your brows are fully healed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are powder brows worth it?

Absolutely! Countless people believe powder brows are worth every penny. Eyebrows look defined without the need to spend hours on home treatments and makeup. Powder eyebrows frame the face, and the results are incredibly natural. Most people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a brow enhancement.

When do powder brows start to scab?

Your brows will appear noticeably darker for four to six days after the procedure, but will start to lighten slightly as the scabs develop, peel and drop off. This happens around seven to ten days after treatment. During this period, your skin may appear to be a little flaky, but the end result will be worth it.

Will powder brows fade completely?

Powder eyebrows can last 2+ years, but results vary depending on skin type, lifestyle and the pigment brand. Applying aftercare will increase the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo. To keep your powder eyebrows vibrant, we recommend a colour pigment boost every 12-18 months.

Can powder brows be removed?

If you no longer wish to continue with powder eyebrows or would like to make adjustments to your shape, we offer brow tattoo removal at SYR Studio. Removal sessions are available as a single session as well as courses of three and six.

Why are powder brows better than microblading?

At your consultation we plan the best course of action for your brows. Microblading is best suited to those that have dry to normal skin, with lightly sparse brows. Powder eyebrows are suitable for all skin types and all brows.

Powder brows for older ladies?

Powder eyebrows are a perfect solution for anyone with sparse brows, particularly those with mature skin. As mature skin is often thinner, the digital device used to implant colour can be adjusted to encourage minimal skin trauma during implantation.

How much is an eyebrow tattoo?

SYR Studio offers powder brows at one of the most competitive rates on the market. Prices begin at just £390, which includes the assessment and top-up appointment at the four to six week mark. We also offer an annual pigment top-up as a standalone service for just £180 for our existing clients.

Things You Need To Know About Ombre Powder Brows

Before you undergo powder brow treatment, you should avoid blood-thinning medicines like aspirin or skin-thinning products such as retinol for around two weeks before the procedure takes place. You also shouldn't have Botox treatments in the two weeks prior to your appointment.

You will be given detailed instructions on how to take care of your brows after the treatment is complete. Essentially, this involves keeping the area dry for at least 48 hours; and taking good care to keep your brows as dry as possible for around ten days after the treatment to avoid the pigment smudging. Also, avoid applying active skincare elements around that area until your skin has recovered.
